Just in case you missed it: Japan’s Gram Cafe & Pancakes, famous for its souffle pancakes, has finally opened a branch in SM Megamall, its first-ever branch in Manila. Ordering the Premium Souffle Pancakes is a given (just remember there’s a fixed schedule for it every day), but this Japanese cafe also serves another really good breakfast staple: the French toast.

What you need to know
Gram Cafe & Pancakes has a Classic French Toast (P300) but it’s the Mixed Berries French Toast (P415) that just speaks to our soul. This is made of a classic French brioche toast that’s topped with three types of berries: strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries, then dusted with confectioners sugar. It’s served with whipped cream, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and a tiny pitcher of maple syrup on the side.

What we love about it
Who doesn’t love a classic French toast? But if you’re a fan of strawberries, you’ll love the Mixed Berries French Toast even more. The medley of fresh and juicy berries are a breath of fresh air from the typical jams or fruity syrups you can find everywhere else.
The way we recommend to eat this is to have a little bit of everything with every bite: a bit of the French toast, whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, maple syrup, and your choice of berry or all the berries. This reminds us of the classic strawberry and condensed milk combination, but better because it’s a heartier dessert because of the brioche bread. Don’t worry, the brioche is thick and can handle absorbing a good amount of the whipped cream, ice cream, and the syrup.
