GOOD FOOD ALERT! There are only a few things that make sponge cake stand out-it has to be jiggly, fluffy, and moist. Sponge cake shops continue to open left and right, which makes it harder to find a remarkable and memorable sponge cake.

Here's one that we think is definitely worth a try: the new Golden Cheese Cake from Grand Castella.

Grand Castella is a popular cakeshop from Taiwan that's known for their fluffy castella cake, a type of sponge cake. This time around, they are combining their signature sponge cake with the well-loved Japanese cheesecake to make the new Golden Cheese Cake.

What we love about it

What we love about the Golden Cheese Cake is that it's exactly what one would expect when a sponge cake and a Japanese cheesecake decide to have a lovechild! Yes, it's jiggly, fluffy, and moist, but it also has the perfect balance of sweetness and tanginess you can often get in Japanese cheesecakes.

The Golden Cheese Cake has a creamy melt-in-your-mouth feeling that only gets more addicting after each bite. It goes without saying that it's best eaten when it's freshly baked, but an important observation we noticed with the Golden Cheese Cake is that it doesn't easily get dry even if it was exposed to room temperature for hours. We have to give plus points for that!

We don't recommend pairing Grand Castella's Gold Cheese Cake with any other drink, because it is already good on its own. When you pair it with the likes of coffee or hot chocolate, you might miss the tangy and sweet flavors of the cake. If you insist on coupling it with a beverage, make sure to take slow sips to fully appreciate the cake and your drink.

Where to get it

You can get Grand Castella's Golden Cheese Cake for P290 per box at the GF Eastwood Mall, Eastwood City, Libis, Quezon City.
