Olympic Weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz Is Homesick For This Classic Pinoy Dish
Olympic medalist and weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz is set to compete at the Tokyo Olympics in July 2021. As part of her training, she went to Malaysia for her training and stayed there for three months, but plans changed and she had to extend her stay because of the pandemic and travel restrictions.
During an interview with Summit Media journalists, Diaz shared that she misses the Philippines a lot after being away for 13 months. Besides feeling homesick for her family and friends, Hidilyn also mentions she misses Filipino food.
Hidilyn says she knows how to cook Pinoy ulam, like the delicious meaty soups such as nilagang baka and tinola, but it's kare-kare that she really craves. She says, "Ang dami kong gusto [na pagkain], pero sana may kare-kare dito. Mahirap atang gawin ang kare-kare." (I love different kinds of food, but I wish there was kare-kare here. I think it's a difficult dish to cook"
