Air fryers are one of the kitchen appliances that's been getting everyone's attention since the quarantine started. One of the air fryer's charms that have people enthralled is that this kitchen appliance can "fry" food with little to no cooking oil.

Karla Apuan is one of the many newbie air fryer users who purchased an air fryer during the quarantine. She bought herself the Hanabishi HAFEO-23SS (popular for its air fryer and oven function) after much consideration and tossed out her trusty old oven toaster to make space for the multipurpose kitchen appliance.

It's only been a few months since she bought the Hanabishi air fryer, and she has already experimented with different dishes and desserts using the kitchen appliance. She describes it as her "new kitchen favorite."

One of the desserts she made using the air fryer is the Chewy Brownies with Almonds and Walnuts, a brownie recipe Karla developed but slightly altered for her air fryer because it was originally meant to be baked using a toaster oven.

Karla says, "I developed the recipe. I wanted to test how various ingredients can affect the taste, texture, and appearance of the brownies. I first made three kinds [of brownies], and compared them side by side. Then I baked a few more batches until I got my preferred taste and texture."

  • 2 In a medium-sized bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  • 3 In another bowl, whisk together melted butter, white sugar, and brown sugar. Add eggs one at a time, mixing after each addition of egg. Stir in oil, corn syrup, and vanilla extract.
