Irvins Apologizes For Dead Lizard Found With Salted Egg Fish Skin

Kudos to the brand for handling it so well!

Irvins is a famous Singaporean salted egg snack brand which distributes its snacks to Hong Kong and the Philippines. Their salted egg-flavored treats are undeniably a delicious snack we simply can't get enough of-but with a side of deep-fried lizard? No, thanks.

Jane Holloway shared her story on Facebook about finding a deep-fried lizard in a pack of Irvins' fried fish skin. According to her now viral post, Jane's mother and brother were already halfway through the bag of fish skin until they noticed the dead lizard, coated with salted egg. Jane mentions, "This gecko was probably deep fried with the salmon skin by the looks of it."

Irvins was quick to issue an apology to Jane Holloway's family and promised refunds to customers wary of their salted egg products after the incident. In Irvins' official statement, it says, "If you have a snack pouch that expires on 16 October 2019 or if you are uncomfortable with consuming our snacks, kindly email us at [email protected] so that our Customer Experience team could assist you with the product recall and refunds required for the snacks."

Quality control is an extremely tricky thing, and sometimes mishaps like this can happen. Irvin Gunawan, the owner of Irvins, admits they don't know how the lizard ended up inside one of their product, but he promises that Irvins will "fix this issue and continue to be an honest and responsible company to all of you." They have reported this incident to Singapore's Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority, which issues licenses to food processing establishments.

If there's anything we can learn from this case, it is that brands should take a page off of Irvins' book on how to manage a crisis quickly and responsibly. According to multiple Facebook users who commented on Irvin's apology post, they salute Irvins for being genuine and owning up to their mistakes-instead of dragging the issue out.
