FOOD SPOTLIGHT: Iloilo’s La Paz Batchoy

Have you tried this flavorful noodle soup?

La Paz Batchoy is hearty noodle soup that originated in La Paz, Iloilo. It has a pork-and-beef stock that makes it extra flavorful, plus the broth has dried shrimp or shrimp paste, too. Fresh miki noodles are commonly used but in some establishments, other kinds of noodles are offered, too.

Netong’s in Iloilo is one of the most popular places to get batchoy. While they do not claim to serve the “original” version, their batchoy is still well-loved because of its unlimited caldo (broth), garlic bits, and chicharon

Netong’s is at the La Paz Public Market, Iloilo City. Open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Editor’s note: Video footage was taken before the quarantine.
