Were you a big fan of the minimalist cake trend? Sure, these cakes with simple frosting and designs are definitely cute, but if an over-frosted cake isn't your cup of tea, we've found a better option for you. Say hello to Lakbay Bread & Pastries' Japanese square cakes.

Lakbay Bread & Pastries has made several Japanese square cakes with different designs. They have in-house designs that feature Pusheen, We Bare Bears, Ironman, Gudetama, Patrick Star, and even cakes with strawberry and flower designs. If you're ordering a Japanese square cake with any of these in-house designs, each cake will only cost around P400 to P500.

You may also have cakes with designs of your choice and have Rilakkuma, Tiger, and Hello Kitty on your cake. For K-pop fans, you may ask for Blackpink or Astro cakes. If you want to place a cake request, all you have to do is to send them a message on Instagram.

These Japanese square cakes are just as pretty as minimalist cakes, but it doesn't have the frosting that minimalist cakes usually have. According to YouTuber Yuni Sweets, these patterned cakes get the design from the cake batter itself (or sometimes, paste-like batter!). The batter is colored and it is piped on a baking pan to form the design, then chilled in the refrigerator afterward. The last step is to add the main cake batter on top before baking.
