For CNY: This Chinese Restaurant Serves Tikoy 4 Different Ways
If you've ever made a grocery run recently, you may have noticed the boxes of tikoy on full display. The sight of these rice cake boxes signifies none other than the upcoming Chinese New Year, which happens to fall on January 22 this year. And while you can cook tikoy at home using our recipe, Luk Yuen has come out with four different tikoy offerings for Chinese New Year.
The Chinese restaurant, which is one of those OG restaurants your grandparents and parents grew up with, has Tikoy Bars (P85/3 pieces), Tikoy Wraps (P85-P105/6 pieces, Flavored Tikoy Bars coated in Crushed Peanuts and Sesame Seeds (P98/4 pieces, P298/dozen pieces), and, our personal favorite, Flavored Tikoy Cubes in Sweet Coconut Milk (P105).
The Tikoy Bars are your typical tikoy slices dipped in beaten egg and then fried, while the Tikoy Wraps look like long cheese sticks or fried spring rolls but with tikoy inside. You can have the tikoy filling in its original flavor, but for a small price difference, you can get both original and ube-flavored tikoy with langka.
The Flavored Tikoy Bars use an assortment of tikoy in different flavors and, as the name suggests, are coated in crushed peanuts and sesame seeds to give it more flavor and texture. And, what is one of our favorite tikoy desserts ever, Luk Yuen's Flavored Tikoy Cubes in Sweet Coconut Milk is best described as ginataang bilo-bilo with chewy tikoy cubes.
Other tikoy offerings they do have that you can take home or give as gifts are their Triple Tikoy (P335) which has original, pandan, and ube flavors, and there are the Mini Tikoy (P88-P98) which comes in original, ube, pandan, and pumpkin flavors.
Luk Yuen has branches in Cash & Carry in Makati City, Makati Supermarket Alabang, Unimart in Greenhills, Glorietta 2 in Makati City, Megamall in Mandaluyong City, and Capitol Commons in Pasig City.
