Is The Sisig From The Manam And 7-Eleven Collab Worth It?
It's available at select 7-Eleven stores!
Pork sisig will always come to mind when one thinks of Manam, and it holds true the other way around, too. Even with the community quarantine in place, you can still enjoy Manam's House Crispy Sisig since they resumed operations for select branches that can deliver your Pinoy comfort food to your doorstep via Foodpanda or GrabFood.
But if you're on a tighter budget, Manam recently collaborated with 7-Eleven and you can get Manam's House Crispy Sisig at 7-Eleven as a ready-to-eat meal. For those who are wondering, "Is it worth it? Is it exactly the same?", we've got the answers for you!
What you should know about it
The restaurant version of Manam's House Crispy Sisig is made with chopped pork jowls and cheek that's served on a sizzling plate. Since sizzling dishes aren't what's usually served in 7-Eleven, they released a heat-and-eat version of this Manam classic.
Instead of the crunchy pork jowls and cheek, the 7-Eleven version is made with pork strips. What ultimately gives it the Manam taste is the special creamy sauce that's made with onion, chicken liver, mayonnaise, soy sauce, oyster sauce, calamansi, and chili pepper.
What we love about it
Flavor-wise, the Manam sauce is really the main star of the dish. The tanginess of the calamansi is the most prominent, then the umami flavors kick in next, but it also leaves a little heat as an aftertaste.
Because the sauce is packed with flavor, a little goes a long way-so don't be surprised if it isn't drowning in sauce. You'll want to get every bit of the sauce with your pork strip or with the garlic rice that comes with the meal.
Also, Manam isn't exactly the restaurant a majority of Filipinos go to every single day-at best, it's the restaurant to go to for parties, special celebrations, Sunday lunch, and lunch-outs with friends or family. What we love about their collaboration with 7-Eleven is how they made such an iconic Filipino dish easily accessible and affordable so that you can enjoy it every day.
Where you can get it
You can get Manam's Sisig in select 7-Eleven stores for P95. They also have a Kare-Kare version priced at P90, too.
