Cebu Lechon Will Be Featured In A New Netflix Series!

Netflix and street food? Yes, please!

From the creators that brought us the captivating visuals and inspiring storytelling of Netflix's Chef’s Table, they are coming out with a new series, Street Food, that explores the streets of the world and the inspiring stories behind the food.

For the first season, Street Food will highlight the street food from nine bustling countries in Asia: Bangkok, Japan, India, Indonesia, Taiwan, South Korea, Vietnam, Singapore, and the Philippines.

The series will focus on Cebu’s street food and the people that make them. Here are the four dishes featured on Netflix’s Street Food:

1 Cebu Lechon

When one thinks of Cebu grub, Cebu lechon often (if not, always) comes to mind. Street Food is featuring Leslie Enjambre’s grandmother who started a Cebu Lechon business in the 1940s. The Enjambre’s heirloom recipe has been passed down through family, continuing its extra juicy, and extra salty lechon legacy.

2 Nilarang Bakasi

Have you heard of Florencio “Entoy” Escabas’ Nilarang Bakasi? This regional dish is a soured stew made with reef eel that paved the way to help his family and the fishing community in Cebu.

3 Tuslob-Buwa

Another regional dish you can find in Cebu is the Tuslob-Buwa. Ian Secong of Azul reintroduces a new and cleaner version of the Tuslob-Buwa, which is commonly a thick, bubbling gravy made with sautéed onions, garlic, and pig brains.

4 Lumpia

You can commonly find lumpia (Chinese-style spring rolls) in restaurants everywhere, but Street Food is putting the focus on Rubilyn Diko Manayon’s lumpia which she sells, alongside 17 other dishes, in a roadside carinderia in Cordova.

Street Food will be available for streaming on Netflix this April 26, 2019. For more information and updates, follow Netflix on Facebook.
