Taho, with its sago and sweet arnibal, will always be a favorite for Filipinos. But if you're feeling a little adventurous, Singapore's Nine Fresh's Jiufen-inspired dessert takes our humble ten-peso cup of warm and sweet taho and gives it a makeover with different toppings that go beyond chewy sago.

Nine Fresh is opening its first two branches outside of their home base in Singapore and is making its way to Manila (very soon), we want to let you in on what you should expect and what are the bestsellers.

They have four flavors of taro balls: sweet potato (orange), matcha (green), taro, and ube.

The structure of Nine Fresh's refreshing desserts starts with a base. Three of the bases they offer are the bean curd, grass jelly, and the ai-yu jelly. A distinct quality of Nine Fresh's bean curd is that it's a little runnier than what's usually used in taho; you can liken the grass jelly with our local gulaman; while the ai-yu jelly is a unique jelly made from seeds of fig fruits mixed with black sugar. The base is then topped with mouthwatering, unique toppings (they're known for their taro balls the most) that come in varying textures and flavors.

Four of their bestsellers are the Nine Fresh Signature (P115) that has a half-and-half bean curd and grass jelly base, topped with red bean, green bean, pinto bean, peanuts, and taro balls; while the Grass Jelly Special (P110) has a grass jelly base topped with aloe vera jelly, black sugar jelly dice, taro balls, and it comes with a mini milk cup you can pour in your cup for a little bit of creaminess.

Another bestseller is the refreshing Fruity Ai-Yu Jelly (P120), which brings together an ai-yu jelly base topped with aloe vera pearl jelly, mango pearl jelly, konjac jelly, taro balls, and a milk cup on the side, while Nine Fresh also has a Black Pearl Ai-Yu Special (P125) for boba fans. This flavor has an ai-yu jelly base, too, but it's topped with red bean, taro balls, black pearls, and a milk cup on the side.
