Looking for ways to support local farmers? Thanks to communities like Old Manila Eco Mart, we can easily support Filipino farmers without going out to the provinces.

Old Manila Eco Mart is a weekend market that makes it easier for Metro Manila residents to support Benguet farmers by buying their produce. According to a Facebook post on their official page, the produce from Benguet was delivered last February 28 and will be available 7 a.m. onwards this February 29 (Saturday) and March 1 (Sunday) at the Old Manila Eco Market, Rizal Park in Luneta, Manila.

All of the fresh produce sold at Old Manila Eco Mart will be priced at very affordable price points! For P25, you can buy a kilo of cabbage, wombok, and sayote, and P35 gives you a kilo of carrots and sayote tops. For P40, you can get a kilo of local radish, celery, and marble potatoes, while for P45, you can get a kilo of beets!

They're also selling produce at P50 per kilo which includes calamansi, Chinese pechay, tomatoes, and wansoy or cilantro, while for P60, you can get a kilo of Korean radish and white onion. For P70, you can get a kilo of broccoli, cauliflower, and yacon (similar to sweet potatoes); P75 lets you buy a kilo of potatoes, leeks, iceberg lettuce, green iceberg lettuce, and romaine lettuce.

If you have a bigger budget with you, your P80 can buy you a kilo of parsley, red onion, and spinach, but for P120, you can get a kilo of ginger and green bell pepper. If you need more of the expensive produce, Old Manila Eco Mart sells their imported lemons and garlic for P140 per kilo, P250 for a kilo of basil, and P360 for a kilo of strawberry. You can also go for a smaller strawberry container for P90/quarter of a kilo and a pack of the young corn for only P20.

We know that buying fresh vegetables for an affordable price (compared to supermarkets) would make you want to buy in bulk, but do avoid panic buying as much as you can. Buy what you need and use the produce with cooking your favorite (Lent-friendly!) dishes, so that nothing goes to waste!

Old Manila Market is located at Rizal Park, Luneta, Manila. It is open this weekend, February 28 to Mach 1, from 7 a.m. onwards. Make sure to go as early as possible so you can get the best produce!
