Year after year, new food trends take over Manila from the widespread milk tea craze that creates long, snaking lines at the mall to the Yakult obsession that’s led to all kinds of desserts flavored by the Japanese probiotic drink. At the moment, perhaps the biggest food trend in the Metro is anything and everything ube-flavored from pandesal to doughnuts. We recently spotted another ube dessert that people are going mad for: Oliva’s Baking Studio makes ube cream cheese naked cake and the pre-order waiting list runs all the way until October. We’re dying to know what the hype is all about!

A naked cake is a type of cake that has a minimal or no outer layer of frosting, so you can see every layer that comprises it. This decadent, ube-flavored take on the cake features four layers of fluffy ube cake in the purple yam’s signature vibrant violent color along with chunks of ube halaya. In between each layer is a thick dollop of cream cheese frosting. It’s finished off with a generous sprinkling of crumbled ube cake on top.
Oliva’s, the Instagram-based bakeshop that makes it, began operating in just June of this year, and the orders for their dreamy cake are already lined up until the “ber” months. We can’t help but wonder what all the hype is about! Could this be Manila’s newest cake craze?
Here’s a closer look:

You can pre-order Oliva’s ube cream cheese naked cake through their Instagram page for P885.
