This Michelin-Star Restaurant Will Introduce You To New Chinese Dishes

The menu lists Chinese dishes you probably haven't tried before.

We're spoilt for choice when it comes to Chinese food in Manila and we all have our favorites. But if you're in the mood to try dishes you probably haven't even heard of before, Putien at the Podium is your best bet. And if you care about restaurants bring awarded for stellar food and consistent quality, you'll be glad to know that Putien is actually a one-star Michelin restaurant, awarded by the Michelin Guide Singapore in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.  

Putien is a Singaporean restaurant which puts the spotlight on Putian food and ingredients. Putian is a city in the Eastern Fujian province of China and they use a lot of seaweed, abalone, and fruits such as pomelos, lychees, and longan in their everyday meals. Croaker fish, a delicate white fish, is also widely available in the Putian region.

You can start off with items from their "Classic Treasures of Fujian" list because you won't find these in other Chinese Restaurants: the Lormee (P368, small; P558, medium; P888 large), a flavorful noodle soup dish loaded with veggies, shrimp, and clams; the 100-Second Stewed Yellow Croaker, made with a delicate white fish shipped from China every day; and the Sweet & Sour Pork with Lychees (P388, small), a delicious take on the usual sweet and sour dish but this time, subtly flavored with lychees.

The Crispy Oyster (P438, small) is one you shouldn't miss and the Fried Heng Hwa Bee Hoon (P368, small), is a noodle dish with really thin bihon noodles loaded with shrimp, scallops, and veggies.

Some Chinese food staples are on the menu, of course. If you are in the mood to celebrate, both the Chili Crab (P290 per 100 grams) and the Black Pepper Crab (P290 per 100 grams) are both satisfying options: you can drench the succulent crab meat in its flavorful sauce (you can also mop the sauce with their delicious mantou buns!). If you still have space for more food, the Seaweed and Mini Shrimps (P288) are a surprising appetizer and the Deep-fried Pork Trotters with Salt & Pepper (P238/ piece) will make any pork fan happy.

"Most of the ingredients used here is sourced from Putian, China," shares Hannah Co, Operation Manager of Putien Philippines. If you're looking to expand your list of Chinese food favorites, Putien is definitely a must-try.
