Rejoice! Shake Shack Is Officially Coming to Manila
You have one year to prepare for it.
After years and years of juicy rumors, it's finally confirmed that popular burger chain Shake Shack is coming to the Philippines in 2019. The company recently made its debut in Hong Kong early this year.
According to Marketwatch.com, Shake Shack will be partnering with retail giant SSI to carry its name and reputation in Manila.
In the article, Shake Shack's Vice President of Global Licensing Michael Kark was quoted to described Manila as an "incredible city." "We are excited to begin the search for our first site in Metro Manila and look forward to becoming part of this community." Meanwhile, SSI's Anton Huang shared how excited they are to bring the world-famous burger company to Manila's dining scene.
"We believe that Filipinos will embrace the mission to Stand for Something Good and are proud to partner with Shake Shack to bring the complete gastronomic experience, coupled with its fun and lively environment to the Philippines," he said. "Stand for Something Good" is Shake Shack's trademarked catchphrase, assuring its customers of quality food, service, and mission.
Shake Shack was founded by Danny Meyer in 2001. It was originally a hotdog cart in Madison Square Park, until its popularity grew and burgers eventually overshadowed their original bestselling merchandise.
Filipinos don't need to go to Hong Kong or South Korea for a taste of Shake Shack. The Manila branch is reportedly opening in 2019!
The Shake Shack effect is so great that Esquire's Josh Ozersky once outlined the secrets behind Shake Shack's success. In his list, he explained how Shake Shack knows how to unabashedly season meat with salt, which he described as "basically cocaine for the palate." Its quality control management, headed by director of operations Randy Garutti (dubbed by Ozersky as "hamburger Kremlin"), has kept its quality consistent throughout branches and franchises.
According to Ozersky, Shake Shack also markets itself as a fine dining restaurant disguised as a fast casual chain.
"When Shake Shack opens a new store, the fact is treated as a story, and even as a news event, like when Jaeger-LeCoultre announced that it would open a watch boutique in New York," he writes. And here we are now.
The fact that it's marketed that way only makes its partnership with luxury giant SSI more perfect.
