Spread the Word: Reno Is Officially Back on the Market

The FDA has given the green light.

Pinoys everywhere were confused—to say the least—when the Food and Drugs Administration came out with an advisory stating that the popular Reno Liver Spread was an unregistered product on September 16, essentially saying that the merienda staple we’ve been enjoying for decades was unfit for public consumption.

Well, it looks like things have finally been ironed out! The liver spread has passed the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) standards and can head back to grocery store shelves, according to Director General Eric Domingo.

Itong liver spread wala nang kulang na dokumento at pumasa sa ating panuntunan,” Domingo was quoted as saying by ABS-CBN. He explained that the liver spread obtained a certificate of product registration around two weeks ago.

It was earlier explained by the FDA that Reno was originally told to register in 2017. Unfortunately, it was discovered early in 2020 that the liver spread had not done so, prompting the somewhat shocking advisory that had everyone confused. The liver spread had been registered with the National Meat Inspection Commission before then. It was only in 2013 when the Food Safey Act took effect that they were expected to register with the FDA as well. Looks like it’s time to bring out the pan de sal!

And if you’re planning to restock your pantry with Reno, might as well check out other spreads and add them to your basket, too!
