This Japanese Dessert Shop Will Soon Open In BGC!

It's their first ever franchise outside Hong Kong!

There are various shaved icy desserts that different cultures enjoy. In the Philippines, we have halo-halo, Korea has bingsu, Taiwan has baobing, Singapore has ais kacang, and you can find snow cone and ice pops (or ice candy, as Pinoys call it) in different countries. A shaved ice dessert that you may not have discovered yet is Japan's kakigori. It may look like Korea's bingsu, but there are distinct differences that set these shaved ice desserts apart.

Kakigori is a Japanese shaved ice dessert that is topped with flavored syrup, and has a cloud-like and snow-like consistency because of the finely-shaved ice. This can usually be found in Japan and is a hit especially during Japan's humid summers. A neighboring Asian country that serves good kakigori is Shari Shari Kakigori House in Hong Kong. This kakigori house started with Shingo Take, a Japanese local, who moved to Hong Kong in 2013. Their soon-to-open Shari Shari Kakigori House branch in Serendra, Bonifacio Global City is their first ever franchise outside Hong Kong.

Shari Shari Kakigori House makes their kakigori with Japanese shaved ice, drizzled with their signature syrup, and a complementing topping. The Philippines franchise has brought in Japanese machines to create the precise way to make the delicate, fluffy, and cloud-like ice that melts in your mouth.

Shari Shari Kakigori House will be serving five flavors for their kakigori: Matcha Cream Special, Earl Grey Milk Tea, Japanese Tofu & Mikan Orange, Strawberry Special, and a Manila-exclusive, the Cantaloupe Melon. They have different toppings you can add to your kakigori to make it your own. You can add ice cream, shiramata (Japanese rice dumpling), cookies, cream, red bean, chocolate sauce, different powders, and kuromitsu (Japanese sugar syrup).

If you're a fan of Japanese flavors such as matcha, Shari Shari Kakigori House's Matcha Cream Special is shaved ice that's coated in their signature matcha cream syrup (made with matcha flown in from Japan) and is topped with a dollop of whipped cream and a drizzle of kuromitsu syrup. A surprise you'll find inside the kakigori is crushed cookies-this adds a bit of crunch, making it a more pleasurable kakigori experience.

An interesting kakigori flavor that may pique your interest is the Earl Grey Milk Tea and Japanese Tofu & Mikan Orange. The Earl Grey Milk Tea, to the delight of milk tea fans, is drizzled with milk tea syrup that actually tastes more like tea than milk or sugar, and this kakigori has the same cookie surprise that the Matcha Cream Special has. For taho fans, the Japanese Tofu & Mikan Orange might be the icy dessert for you. This kakigori is topped with tofu syrup, kinako powder (roasted soybean flour), and Mikan orange, which gives it a citrusy flavor.

Shari Shari Kakigori House will also be serving fruity kakigori, like the Strawberry Special and the Cantaloupe Melon. The Strawberry Special is a combo of milky, sweet, and tart flavors that comes from the strawberry milk syrup, whipped cream, and the strawberry topping. In an effort to stir away from the usual Pinoy flavors, Shari Shari Kakigori House will serve the Cantaloupe Melon on their menu. This Manila-exclusive kakigori flavor is drizzled with melon syrup, whipped cream, and melon toppings.

When Shari Shari Kakigori House opens, there will be more flavors to choose from, like Tiramisu, Banana, Mango, and Black White Angel (cookies and cream) flavors! Just to keep us on our toes, Shari Shari Kakigori House will constantly change their menu according to what is in season. We are crossing our fingers that their Japanese Cherry Blossom, Halloween-special: Pumpkin with Purple Sweet Potato, Christmas-special: Pistachio & Raspberry, and all their other seasonal kakigori flavors that they serve in their Hong Kong branch will eventually be available here, too!

Shari Shari Kakigori House's kakigori will range from P260 to P380 (depending on the flavor). The store is set to open this June 2019 and will be located at G/F Serendra, McKinley Parkway, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
