The Spaghetti That Celebrity Alden Richards Can’t Stop Dreaming About

Hint: it’s a favorite of most Pinoys, too.

Ask anyone about their favorite kind of spaghetti and almost every Pinoy will have that fond memory of a Pinoy-style cheesy spaghetti. For actor Alden Richards, it’s his lola’s spaghetti. “My lola makes the best spaghetti in town!” he shares in an interview with Summit Media journalists. Having grown up with his lola, Richards learned how to cook from her; he even shared a lechon paksiw recipe in a local cookbook by a fellow celebrity.

Richard says his lola makes “yung ‘happy birthday spaghetti’!” Yun talaga yung specialty niya.” Because of the pandemic, he hasn’t seen his lola for the past few months. Richards has gone back to work, taping TV shows and preparing for his first-ever virtual reality concert scheduled for December 8.

Yun talaga yung favorite naming niluluto ni lola,” he shares fondly. “Minsan nagbibiro yan, kasi she’s 82 now, I guess. “O, pag may free time ka, ituturo ko na sayo ‘tong recipe ko kasi baka hindi na ako magtagal. Kailangan may magmana nito.”

That’s one of the recipes na gusto naming mamana, how to make that lola spaghetti, the happy birthday spaghetti.” If he had his way, he’d want his lola to live up to a hundred, still making that spaghetti he and his cousins grew up with and love.
