It looks like 2018 is the year of sustainability. We’re seeing more and more people interested in a zero-waste lifestyle, from dining to traveling. Plus, lots of local hostels are converting container vans into livable buildings, which is the more eco-friendly choice—otherwise, these container vans will just end up as junk, usually in port areas. And the trend isn’t limited to accommodations, either: Starbucks Taiwan made waves recently when they built a branch made entirely out of container vans.
According to the official Starbucks website, 29 container vans were used to build the store, which spans 320 square meters and is two stories tall. Designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, the store has a unique facade inspired by coffee trees, and lots of skylights to let sunshine stream in. Plus, one end of the store features a majestic mountain-range view. This Starbucks branch is easily one of the most unique stores of the chain, so be sure to add this to your Taiwan itinerary.
