Bacolod's napoleones, which is akin to the French pastry mille-feuille, is one of those well-loved pastries amongst locals and tourists because of how addicting it is: a flaky puff pastry with custard cream and a sugary glaze on top. While a trip to Negros Occidental won't be as easy because of the pandemic, you can now just go to a Starbucks store near you because one of their newest offerings is the napoleones. You can now get this light, buttery, and flaky pastry with a smooth and creamy vanilla custard cream in between the layers, then dusted with powdered sugar on top.

We got to try this melt-in-your-mouth pastry and were first surprised by how ginormous it is. If you have ever tried the napoleones sold in Bacolod (and in some restaurants in Metro Manila), these are commonly sold as square pieces. The napoleones sold in Starbucks is twice as long, it measures 5-inches long!

At the first bite, you won't get too much of the vanilla custard cream, unlike the smaller square-sized napoleones. You'll need to take atleast two bites of the flaky pastry before you get to the vanilla custard cream in the center, which had just the right amount of sweetness to it and tastes a bit like Dunkin's Bavarian cream.

Since you're already ordering from Starbucks, you should pair the napoleones with coffee! We recommend going for a stronger, not-so-sweet brew (like an Americano!) since the napoleones will be your source of ssugar in between sips.

Starbucks' Napoleones is sold at P95 per piece. This is now available in stores and via GrabFood, but only until April 19, 2021. Grab one while it's still available!
