"This is like the extension of our home. Everything is based on our memories of our Sunday dinners in Talisay [Cebu]," shares chef Tatung Sarthou of his newly opened restaurant, Talisay, The Garden Café.

The simple interiors will remind you of stepping into your lola's house on a Sunday: there are no antiques in sight but there's a quiet, welcoming vibe to the airy space that allows the food to be the star.

A peek into the menu reveals Filipino and Spanish favorites, some of which are bestsellers from chef Tatung's previous restaurants such as the Lumpia Fresca (P295), with a refreshing tangy cilantro jelly served on the side, instantly brightening the flavors of the familiar appetizer. You will also be served homemade bread, too -soft, fluffy, and not too sweet and so good you'll want to order beyond the complimentary slices.

The Molo Soup (P240) is flavorful, each slurp telling you that the broth was made from scratch. "We really make everything in the kitchen, from the broth of the molo soup to the homemade bread," chef Tatung adds. The Lengua In Mushroom Cream Sauce (P630), which is reserved for big family meals and special occasions, is tender and savory, bringing back happy memories of Christmas or of family reunions when you last had this party-worthy dish. The Paella Mixta (P790), a serving of chicken and seafood paella, is bursting with flavors and will have you thinking of your next order (or visit!).

Chef Tatung also chose to create their own desserts, to encourage you to stay and linger. Talisay's chocolate cake will surprise you with peanut flavors, lending nutty notes to the dense, moist chocolate base. They also serve cassava cheesecake, a combo of both cassava cake and cheesecake layers sitting on a polvoron crust.

Everything tastes familiar but better. At Talisay, you are clearly treated to sample chef Tatung's big family meals and we have a feeling your lola would approve, too.
