Add This To Your Travel Bucket List: The Hershey Story Museum
Live out your Charlie-and-the-Chocolate-Factory fantasy.
Any chocolate-obsessed fan should know that there are quite a few chocolate museums that exist and deserve a spot in one's travel bucket list! There's the newly-opened Lindt Home of Chocolate in Switzerland that has a huge chocolate fountain, but one that you may not know existed (for more than a decade now!) is The Hershey Story museum in Pennsylvania, USA.
Through the help of the museum's exhibits, you'll know how The Hershey Company founder Milton S. Hershey's humble beginnings as a struggling entrepreneur, then how he eventually succeeded in revolutionizing milk chocolate.
They also have interactive exhibits. Tastings allows museum-goers to try a variety of chocolate, from milk to dark chocolate. You can even sample servings of warm chocolate that highlights flavors from around the world.
Another interactive exhibit the museum has is the Chocolate Lab, which any kid and kid-at-heart will love. You'll learn how cacao is grown, how chocolate is made, and then create a chocolatey treat of your own that you can take home. Each session in the Chocolate Lab lasts for 45 minutes.
The Hershey Story museum also has special exhibits that change periodically. As of writing, the special exhibit they have lets you visit Mr. Hershey's "Sugar Town" in Hershey's Cuba. This town was said to support a sugar mill and refinery rather than a chocolate factory.
If you're tired of all the activities or the information overload, you can take a break and grab something to eat at The Pantry Café. You can choose from a wide selection of breakfast items, lunch sandwiches, salads, and homemade signature desserts (of course, using Hershey's chocolate!)
The Hershey Story is located at West Chocolate Avenue in downtown Hershey, Pennsylvania, USA.
