It’s been more than a week since Tropical Hut became the talk of the town. All thanks to a Twitter post that went viral, people continue to reminisce fond stories of their younger selves eating their go-to Tropical Hut orders, to the point that Tropical Hut announced that their supplies are low.
While, now people are up to speed about Tropical Hut and their 10/10 burgers, probably even the Gen Z, here’s an interesting fact about Tropical Hut you might not know: Tropical Hut has supermarkets, called Tropical Hut Foodmart. The signage of the supermarket comes with the tagline “Your community supermarket.”
According to their company profile on JobStreet, Tropical Hut Food Market started out as a sari-sari store and in 1962, it became a grocery store and then expanded into a supermarket. “It was also in this year that the concept of a Coffee Shop within the Supermarket was launched with the introduction of Tropical Hut Hamburger. The Company was incorporated on February 26, 1965.”
In 1972, Mercury Group of Companies, Inc acquired Tropical Hut Food Market, Inc. to introduce the “drugstore within a supermarket” concept. This explains why there’s often a Mercury Drugstore branch right beside Tropical Hut.
We went to the Tropical Hut Foodmart located along President’s Avenue in Parañaque City. For this particular Tropical Hut Foodmart branch, there is no neighboring Mercury Drugstore.Â
The Tropical Hut Foodmart in Parañaque is smaller compared to other supermarkets, but they do have your basics covered. They have an impressive selection of beverages, spices, condiments, and even frozen goods.
