Yes, You Can Make "Tuna Pie" Using Sliced Bread!

With the global outbreak of COVID-19 and the announcement of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), a lot of people started limiting trips to the grocery. These are trying times that don't just test our budgeting skills, but it also tests how creative and agile we can be in the kitchen.
In Facebook groups like Let's Eat, Pare and Quarantine Tribute Tips ("tributes" are people who are tasked to do groceries during the ECQ), people are helping each other out by sharing tips and ingenious food hacks that make do with what we have in our pantry.
Imsi Mejorada, recently shared her easy food hack on how to make tuna pie, based on a YouTube video she chanced upon. Her version uses a slice of bread, canned tuna, canned mushroom, mayonnaise, all-purpose cream, and grated cheese.
Here's how you can do it at home:
1 Prep by draining canned tuna, draining canned mushroom and slicing mushrooms into small squares, and grating the cheese.
2 Mix tuna, mushroom, cheese, mayonnaise, all-purpose cream in one bowl, and season with salt and pepper as needed. You have the freedom to make substitutes or add more ingredients to make it more filling and flavorful.
3 Cut the edges of the bread and flatten using a rolling pin. You can also use a drinking glass or a bottle if you don't have a rolling pin.
4 Fill the middle part of flattened bread with the tuna filling and fold the ends.
5 Seal both sides of the bread by applying pressure using the points of a fork.
6 Dip or brush the bread in egg wash and coat in breadcrumbs. You can use crushed crackers or crushed toasted bread as an alternative to breadcrumbs.
7 Fry until golden brown. Serve while hot!
Once you've got this pie hack down to a tee, you can also use different fillings like peach with mangoes, too.
