Here’s What You Should Eat In Sorsogon, According to Heart Evangelista

Sorsogon is a province in the southernmost part of Luzon known for activities like whale shark-sightseeing in Donsol, island hopping to the neighboring white sand beaches (there's also a pink-colored beach in Matnog!), and you can even go to hot springs in Irosin. This quiet province is also surrounded by lush forests where you can go hiking, such as the one at Mt. Pulog.

But when it comes to local delicacies, the food you can find in the province isn't as popular compared to the food found in neighboring provinces like Bicol, which is known for several dishes that use an abundance of chilies and coconut milk or gata.
If you've ever been curious about what to eat in Sorsogon, celebrity Heart Evangelista has a few suggestions. She has posted countless times on her social media about her love for the province and she even has a YouTube series called Mahal Kong Sorsogon.
In an exclusive interview with Heart Evangelista, the Yummy.ph team asked her for her favorite food finds in Sorsogon. For those planning a trip to Sorsogon in the future, you should add these to your bucket list:
Sorsogon Delicacies
1 Pinausukang Laing
According to Heart, the best laing she's ever tasted is the one served in Sorsogon, which is different from the ones served in Bicol. She says, "Pinausukan siya, so you really taste it. It tastes smoky, it's so malasa, and it's darker [colored] compared to others."
2 Lobsters
Another thing you can get in Matnog are the giant lobsters! Being surrounded by the ocean really has its perks, especially when it comes to sourcing fresh seafood.
3 Timitim
If you find yourself in Gubat, Sorsogon, make sure to try the timitim. It's a delicacy similar to cassava cake that's made with grated cassava, coconut milk, sugar, vanilla, and pili nuts. According to The Bicolano Man, you can't find this delicacy anywhere else except in Gubat, and that even in this small town, there is only a handful that makes timitim.
4 Mini Malunggay Pandesal
Heart says that the malunggay pandesal in Sorsogon is just "perfectly different" and further describes the bread as soft, sweet, and extra chewy that you don't even need butter. She says that 10 mini malunggay pandesal is roughly equivalent to one regular pandesal. "So, pwede ka mag-20 mini [malunggay pandesal]," she shared.

5 Pili Nuts
Pili nuts are probably the most famous delicacy in Sorsogon, which is why Heart recommends it! Several pasalubong centers offer different takes on the pili nuts, but the most common ones sold are the roasted and the pili nut brittle. Locals even use this for crafting knick-knacks and furniture.
