What Is An Egg Drop Sandwich + Where To Buy It

South Korea is home to tons of interesting food trends. Do you remember during the start of the pandemic when everyone was whipping up a cup of dalgona coffee? Other interesting food trends followed like the Korean corn dog, garlic cream cheese bread, and croiffles (croissant-meets-waffles). Now, the emerging food trend is the egg drop sandwich.
What is an egg drop sandwich?
An egg drop sandwich is what happens when you combine fluffy-as-clouds scrambled eggs, crisp bacon strips or ham, melted cheese, sriracha, and a sweet white sauce, that are all sandwiched in between a buttery, golden-brown thick slice of bread.
Just in case you didn't know, there is actually a popular breakfast sandwich chain in South Korea called Egg Drop that served these type of egg sandwiches stuffed with scrambled egg and your choice of filling. One of the more famous flavors they have is the Avo Holic which has fresh avocado, scrambled egg, fresh cream, and an egg sauce, all hugged by a brioche bun.Â
If you're a fan of the Korean drama Hospital Playlist, you might have noticed it a couple of times during the latest season when Ik Jun's (Jo Jung Suk) bonds with his son, Uju (Kim Jun), over Egg Drop's egg sandwiches.Â
This breakfast sandwich trend became a big hit that you can now find it in other countries, too! In Singapore, they have a store called Egg Stop, while in the Philippines, there are a few stores emerging where you can order these trendy sandwiches.
