Here's what this novice air fryer owner had to say:

Initial Thoughts

I've never owned an air fryer, so I was hoping the Xiaomi Smart Air Fryer would be a good pick for first-time users. The price makes the device very tempting, especially for those of you who are slowly investing in appliances for new homes or looking to level up your cooking skills without spending a hefty sum.

Upon ordering, the delivery was fast, efficient, and well-packaged, so even amidst quarantine in Metro Manila, you'll be able to start using it right away.

Size and Aesthetic

Based on initial viewing of the product online, I was surprised to find that it's a little bigger than I had imagined, though still compact enough to sit comfortably on top of a relatively small kitchen counter. We were able to fit it right in between our microwave and oven toaster with no problem.

The Xiaomi Smart Fryer has a temperature capacity of up to 200 degrees celsius and a timer that can be set for up to 30 minutes. Based on my research online, these settings are pretty standard for most mid-range air fryers you would find on the market, and they'll work for a majority of the air fryer recipes you'll find online. All the controls are displayed on the front panel of the device with just a few buttons and a small LED screen. Even totally clueless cooks would be able to figure out the controls in a flash.

Usage

As with any appliance, Xiaomi's Smart Air Fryer came with an instruction manual and it's simple enough for any newbie cook to figure out. As far as initial set up of the device, it has a 220W voltage and fits into a standard three-pronged wall socket or adapter, so you don't need to be a tech genius to get it up and running in your kitchen; no assembly of any kind was required. The instructions on the package are clear and note right away that the device needs to be pre-heated for about three minutes before you start cooking. Once you pre-heat it, you can start your meal prep.

The chamber's 2.6-liter capacity can hold enough food for about two to four people.

The Internet is filled with all kinds of recipes for air fryers from snacks like French fries to meals like tocino. On my first use, I followed a simple fried chicken recipe I found online. I browsed several air fryer recipes made by cooks with devices of different brands and noticed that the Xiaomi Air Fryer's temperature and timer settings fit perfectly with pretty much every recipe I could find.

I prepared a meal for four people, and I found the 2.6-liter chamber to be a good size, though I had to cook all the chicken (about 8 pieces of breaded fillet) in two batches. Each batch took about 10 minutes total. Even though it was my first time using an air fryer, the fried chicken came out fully cooked, crunchy, flavorful, and moist with not much effort. And yup, no oil was used in the process.

The best part about the process was that unlike most traditional stovetop cooking methods, the air fryer need not be monitored while it's running. Simply prepare your food, put it in the chamber, set the time and temperature as needed, and leave the device to do its job. That way, you can take care of other chores or responsiblities around the house while your food is cooking. The device makes a fairly loud alert sound once the timer is finished, so you'll know your food is finished even if you leave the kitchen.

Consensus

For air fryer newbies, amateur cooks, and homeowners on a budget, I believe the Xiaomi Smart Air Fryer is a great choice thanks to its wallet-friendly price, user-friendly controls, and quality performance. For P2,795, you get everything you pay for and more.
