Apple Nachos

Make the caramel sauce: Combine sugar and water in a heavy-bottomed pot. Stir to dissolve sugar. place the pot over medium heat and bring to a boil. Wait until it turns into a golden amber color, then carefully pour in heavy cream. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat and add butter. mix well; allow to cool.

Prepare the nachos:   Slice apples thinly (crosswise) and toss with lemon juice. place on a serving platter. Drizzle caramel sauce over. Top with popcorn, chocolate chips, and nuts.

Make-ahead tip:  The caramel sauce can be made ahead and stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 10 days.
