This dish is the perfect example of hands-off oven cooking. It takes virtually no effort or special skill to put together—you just throw everything into the pot then tuck it in the oven.

Asian-Style Braised Pork Belly Ingredients

  • 1.2 kilo pork skin-on, bon-in, cut into 1 to 2-inch pieces
  • 4 onion peeled and quartered
  • 6 cloves Garlic peeled and sliced
  • 5 slices ginger
  • 2 pieces star anise
  • 1/2 stick cinnamon
  • 1/4 Cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 Cup rice wine
  • 1/3 Cup Soy Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons dark soy sauce
  • 4 to 5 stalks green onion chopped
  • 3 to 4 sprigs cilantro (wansoy) leaves picked


  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Place pork, onions, garlic, ginger, star anise, cinnamon, brown sugar, rice wine, soy sauce, and dark soy sauce in a 4-quart ovenproof pot. Add about 1 to 11/2 cups water until ingredients are almost submerged. Mix well and cover.
  • Cook in the preheated oven for 1 hour.
  • Remove cover, stir, and return to oven to cook for another 1 to 2 hours or until meat is fork-tender, stirring occasionally. Remove from oven.5 discard star anise and cinnamon. Transfer to a serving dish. Garnish with green onions and cilantro.
