A salad is really just a bowl of fresh vegetables until you add a salad dressing. That's why the choice of salad dressing is important. We recommend a homemade Caesar salad dressing like this one so you can transform any bowl of leafy greens into a more appetizing one.

What is a Caesar salad?

According to popular belief, the caesar salad was invented by an Italian chef named Caesar Cardini. It's a mixture of anchovy fillets mashed into creamy mixture of egg yolk, mustard, lemon juice, garlic, Parmesan cheese, Worcestershire sauce, and olive oil tossed with romaine lettuce and topped with croutons or crusty bread cubes.

What many may not know is that the concoction that is the creamy salad dressing was tossed together haphazardly from ingredients in the scantily-supplied kitchen at the time to create a dish considered as finger food. It was so easy to make that it could be made tableside which made it an instant hit!

While there is contention regarding exactly who made the salad dressing, what is known as fact is that it was made in Caesar's Tijuana restaurant and the original recipe of that salad is still being made there.

If you want to try a simple yet tasty version of the Caesar salad, this is one version to try!
