Chinese Beef Stew Recipe

Chinese Beef Stew Ingredients

  • 2 pieces cinnamon sticks
  • 2 pieces star anise
  • 4 slices ginger
  • 5 cloves Garlic skin on
  • 1/2 kilos beef cubes
  • 1 Cup Chinese rice wine
  • 1/2 Cup Light soy sauce
  • 1 Cup dark soy sauce
  • 10 Grams Palm sugar
  • 1 piece bay leaf
  • water as needed
  • onion leeks chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil or as needed


  • In a deep heavy-duty pot, heat the oil and fry the cinnamon sticks, star anise, ginger, and garlic. Season the beef with salt and pepper and then add to the pot. Cook until brown on all sides.
  • Add the rice wine, light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, rock sugar, and bay leaf. Cover with enough water.
  • Bring to a boil for 5 to 10 minutes and reduce to a simmer. Cover and cook the beef for 1 hour or until tender. Add salt to taste. Transfer to a serving bowl. Garnish with onion leeks. Serve while hot.
