A beef with broccoli recipe is a popular ulam recipe. It’s a classic Chinese-inspired restaurant dish that we loved so much that we recreated it at home!Â
You can certainly make the classic version which has a sauce but why not try it without the sauce? You get a similar taste but all that sauce that you would normally expect in the classic version is absorbed by the beef and lightly coats the broccoli florets. The resulting dish is a dry (aka tuyo) version that is still easy to make and delicious enough to make you crave another serving.Â

- 1 1-inch piece ginger sliced into strips
- 4 cloves Garlic chopped
- 500 Grams broccoli florets only
- 3 tablespoons water
- 1/4 Cup oyster sauce
- 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce
- 2 teaspoons cane vinegar
- 2 tesapoons light brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch dissolved in 3 tablespoons water
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- Salt to taste

Instructions
- Combine beef, soy sauce, and black pepper in a bowl. Mix well. Set aside to marinate for at least 1 hour.
- Make the sauce: Combine oyster sauce, soy sauce, vinegar, sugar, and pepper in a saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-low heat. Add dissolved cornstarch and simmer until thick, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat. Add sesame oil and mix well. Set aside.
- Once ready to cook the beef, preheat oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Dredge beef strips in cornstarch, shaking off any excess. Deep-fry beef until golden and crispy. Drain on a paper towel-lined plate. Set aside.
- Heat 2 tablespoons oil in a wok over medium-high heat. Stir-fry onions and ginger until fragrant. Add garlic and stir-fry just until light brown. Add broccoli florets and stir-fry for 2 minutes. Add water and cook until broccoli is tender, about 4 minutes. Season with salt. Add crispy beef to the wok and mix. Drizzle prepared sauce and toss to combine. Serve immediately.
