Ginisang Gulay At Tokwa Recipe

Chop up your favorite vegetables and toss it with tofu for an easy stir fried dish.

You need to make this incredibly flavorful stir-fried dish. The stir-fried sauce is both slightly sweet and savory and also aromatic courtesy of the sesame oil and seeds. Almost everything about this recipe cooks fast so once all your prep work and the frying of the tofu (which you can ahead of time) is done, just toss everything together, let it heat up, and then serve with your favorite fried food.

Ingredients
  

Ginisang Gulay At Tokwa Ingredients

  • 1 500-gram pack firm tofu or tokwa cut into squares
  • 1/4 Cup honey
  • 1 Cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 Cup Soy Sauce
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1/2 Cup water
  • 2 teaspoons sesame seeds
  • 2 tablepoons Oil
  • 1 large red onion peeled, sliced
  • 3 cloves Garlic peeled, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger peeled, grated
  • 1 400-gram can whole button mushrooms quartered
  • 1 Small carrot peeled, cut into thin sticks
  • 1 medium sayote peeled, seed removed, and cut into thin sticks
  • 1 bunch string beans (sitaw) cut into 3-inch lengths
  • 2 Small red bell peppers seeded, cut into thin strips
  • 1 425-gram can young corn cut into 1-inch pieces
  • ground black pepper to taste

Instructions
 

  • In a large frying pan over medium heat, cook tofu until golden brown on all sides. Drain on a rack over paper towels. Using scissors, cut each square in half. Set aside and keep warm.
  • Meanwhile, make the sauce: in a medium bowl, mix chicken broth, honey, sesame oil, soy sauce, water, and cornstarch until well mixed. Add sesame seeds. Set aside.
  • In a large wok over medium-high heat, heat oil. Add onions and saute until just translucent. Add garlic and ginger, and saute.
  • Add mushrooms, carrots, and sayote strips, and saute until just softened and heated through.
  • Add string beans, red bell peppers, and young corn. Saute until just heated through.
  • Create a well in the center and pour in prepared sauce. Stir until the sauce thickens then toss vegetables together. Add tofu and toss everything together. Serve while hot.
