Do you know the vegetables mentioned in the song "Bahay Kubo"? If you do, you would know that "sigarilyas" is one of those vegetables.

However, not everyone knows what this vegetable is. Also known as the pallang or kalamismis, the sigarilyas is a tropical vine plant which loves the sun! It's also called the "winged bean" in English, and it's because this vine-grown string bean has four frilly extensions that extend from the main body of the bean pod which reminds many of "wings".

Whether you get lucky in the supermarket and are able to grab a bundle of these winged beans or not, use sigarilyas to make this easy but flavorful vegetable side dish that goes well with any fried food you may have for lunch or dinner.
