These juicy burgers with a hint of onion are addictively delicious, and we know how to make this fast food recipe hack at home!

What Is Jollibee Burger Steak?

The burger steak is a version of the Salisbury steak or more originally, the Hamburg steak or hamburger. The meal is a ground meat patty (usually it is beef) smothered in a brown gravy or sauce and served with your choice of sides or between the halves of a large bun. (For us Pinoys, this side has to be rice!)

The Jollibee Burger Steak is a version of these iconic meals but using the fast food's iconic burger, and yes, it's easy to recreate at home. It's a deceptively simple burger recipe that is distinctive and tasty with an equally flavorful beef and a mushroom gravy that Pinoys love to eat with rice.

How To Serve Jollibee Burger Steak

This burger steak can be served with rice since Filipinos love hearty meals but you can also opt to serve this with a side of buttered vegetables, creamy mashed potatoes, or even fries so you can dunk those fried potato sticks (or wedges!) in the mushroom gravy, too!

To make the homemade version of this fast food meal, you need to start with the patty. The ground meat is mixed with seasonings and chopped onions. These are formed into balls and then flattened into patties; a good size guide is your palm.

Sear these in a little oil in a frying pan (or a grill pan!) until these are browned and cooked to your desired doneness. Set these burgers aside.

Time for the gravy! The gravy is made using the drippings from the burger so you get the extra meaty flavor from them. Saute some mushrooms then add a stock cube or granules to beef up the gravy's flavor. Thicken the sauce with a little flour before adding water to create the gravy.

To serve, remember to drizzle on the gravy because you know you want more!

Tips To Make Jollibee Burger Steak

1 Add fat to your ground meat!

Nobody likes a dry burger and one of the ways to avoid this is to make sure that you use a grind with fat in it. This means if you use a lean ground meat mix instead of the regular ground meat, you need to add fat to it in the form or chopped up bacon or even fatty liempo bits finely chopped. You can even wrap it in bacon if you truly want a decadent burger steak!

2 Drain the excess oil.

Meat produces fat and this is super tasty! However, you don't want too much of it so remember to drain the excess fat first before you start the gravy. You can always add more of that flavorful fat back into the gravy. It's harder to remove it.

3 Be generous with the gravy.

Oh, yes indeed! The gravy is key to this recipe because, without it, it's just a burger on a plate. To make sure this is indeed a burger steak, make enough gravy not only to pour on the burger but also on the rice, too. (You're welcome!)

You'll want to store the burger and gravy separately for best results. This means you can sear the burgers again so you get that nice crust on them before adding the gravy to have your leftover meal. However, if it's together already, you can cover and store in the refrigerator for up to three days or you can freeze the burgers and gravy, tightly wrapped and in containers for up to two weeks.
