Pain Au Chocolat (Chocolate Pastry) Ingredients

  • 2 sheets frozen puff pastry thawed
  • 1 large Egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water
  • 90 Grams Bittersweet chocolate cut into 12 (3 x 3/4 x 1/4-inch) pieces
  • 1 tablespoon sugar for sprinkling


  • Preheat oven to 400ºF. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  • Cut 6 (3x3¾-inch) rectangles per puff pastry sheet. Brush top of each rectangle with egg wash.
  • Place 1 piece of chocolate on the edge of a pastry rectangle. Roll dough tightly to enclose chocolate. Place pastry roll on the baking sheet, seam side down. Repeat with remaining pastry and chocolate.
  • Brush tops of pastry rolls with remaining egg wash and sprinkle lightly with sugar.
  • Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until pastries are puffed and golden brown. Serve warm or at room temperature.
