Ingredients
Sirloin Steak with Mac and Cheese Casserole Ingredients
- 1 cut sirloin steaks at least 1-inch thick
- 1 tablespoon canola oil
- 3 tablespoons Butter divided
- 2 sprigs fresh thyme
- Salt to taste
- ground black pepper to taste
- 1 400-gram pack elbow macaroni
- 1/4 Cup Butter
- 1 Small white onion peeled, finely chopped
- 1 Cup broccoli florets finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 Cup fresh milk
- 1/2 block sharp cheddar or about 113 grams. grated
- 1 220-gram pack cheese spread
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 teaspoons Oil
- 1 clove Garlic peeled, chopped
- 1/4 Cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 Cup potato chips crushed
- 1 handful parsley chopped
- Salt to taste
- ground black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Open the windows. cover or point the fans toward your smoke alarm. turn on the range hood to High. (it will get smoky.)
- Generously season your chosen steak with salt and ground black pepper on both sides.
- Heat a medium pan over high heat. once hot, add oil. swirl to coat bottom of pan evenly. lay steak on the hot pan.
- Let sear for 1 minute. Check doneness. continue cooking until desired doneness is reached. Flip. add 2 tbsp. butter and herbs, basting as desired. cook until preferred doneness is achieved. remove from heat onto a plate. top with remaining butter, if desired.
- Let rest at least 10 minutes before slicing. serve while warm.
- Make the casserole: bring a pot of water to a boil. Season with salt, and add macaroni. Cook 8 minutes, drain, and set aside.
- Meanwhile, in a sauté pan over medium heat, melt butter. Add onion and cook, stirring, until translucent. Stir in broccoli, and cook until heated through.
- Sprinkle in flour, stirring, until mixture is coated. Pour in milk, stirring until incorporated. Bring to a boil, and let cook until thickened. Add cheddar and cheese spread, and season with nutmeg. Stir in cooked macaroni. Season to taste with salt and ground black pepper. Transfer to cast iron pan. Set aside
- Stir oil, garlic, breadcrumbs, potato chips, and parsley. Season with salt and ground black pepper to taste. Top pasta with breadcrumbs mixture. Toast in preheated oven until top is just toasted.
