Spicy Dan Dan Noodles Recipe

Thick chewy udon noodles for spicy food fans!

Udon noodles are used for this recipe and are thick, chewy, springy wheat noodles that originated in Japan. Like most Asian noodles, they may be served hot or cold, and with or without broth. Not a big fan of spicy food? Adjust the amount of hot soybean paste according to your taste.

Spicy Dan Dan Noodles Ingredients

  • 400 Grams egg noodles (pancit canton)
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/4 Cup Garlic finely-chopped
  • 1/4 Cup white onion finely-chopped
  • 4 tablespoons hot soybean paste
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
  • 4 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 200 Grams pork use ground pork
  • 1/2 Cup chicken stock
  • 1/4 Cup roasted peanuts
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons white sesame seeds toasted
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons black sesame seeds toasted
  • 3 tablespoons green onion
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • cilantro (wansoy) for garnish


  • Boil egg noodles for three minutes, or until soft but al dente. Place noodles in a colander and rinse under cold running water; drain and set aside. 
  • Heat oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat. Add garlic and onion; sauté until soft.
  • Add soybean paste, sugar, and oyster sauce. Mix well then add pork. Sauté until pork is cooked through, about 5 minutes.
  • Place cooked noodles on a plate. Top with pork mixture. Sprinkle with peanuts, sesame seeds, and green onions. Drizzle with sesame oil and garnish with cilantro before serving.
