Tamarind Shrimp Skewers Recipe

The usual sweet-and-sour sauce gets an update in this shrimp recipe.

For this seafood recipe, we used tamarind paste and fresh orange juice to glaze juicy shrimp. Use the glaze on fish fillets and chicken cutlets, too!

Tamarind Shrimp Skewers Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon sinigang sa sampalok paste (we used Mama Sita)
  • 1/4 Cup fresh orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons Light soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 20 large Shrimp trimmed
  • 1 navel orange seedless, cut into half-moons

Instructions
 

  • Soak bamboo skewers in water to prevent burning.
  • Combine sinigang sa sampalok paste, orange juice, soy sauce, lemon juice, brown sugar, and red pepper flakes in a bowl. Add shrimps and marinate for 30 minutes.
  • Thread shrimps onto skewers, alternating with orange wedges.
  • Simmer remaining marinade until thick, about 5 to 10 minutes. Set aside.
  • Grill shrimp skewers on a grill pan until they turn pink, about 3 minutes per side. Brush occasionally with marinade.
