Are you a fan of the tangy flavor of tomatoes? If you are, you will love that we recommend you make some Kapampangan chicken asado this week! That’s because tomatoes got cheaper this week. While whole chicken prices continue to be priced at P200 per kilo, this is still much more affordable than pork or beef, both of which continue to be over P350 and more per kilo.
Tomatoes are P50 per kilo but even cheaper this week are kalabasa at P40 per kilo and sayote at P30 per kilo. While these are some of the more affordable veggies you’ll find in the palengke, some continue to be priced above P100. Eggplants or talong are P100 per kilo while both the Baguio beans or habitchuelas and the formerly humble ampalaya or bitter gourd are both priced at P120 per kilo.
If you’re thinking fish might be a cheaper option, it is but it’s good to note which is more affordable this week. Bangus or the milkfish got a price increase of P10, ending at P180 per kilo while galunggong continues to be priced over P200 per kilo. The smart grocery shopping choice in terms of fish is still tilapia which continues to be the most affordable fish on the market at P120 per kilo.
While rice continues to hold steady prices, the price of bread is one to monitor, especially since your usual pandesal may be looking smaller than ever because of shrinkflation. It’s known as a price increase in disguise since the size of bread is smaller. This is usually done to avoid increasing the price of its products, especially since wheat prices have increased making flour more expensive.
Thankfully, there are only a few ingredients at the palengke that increased in prices this week compared to ingredients that had a price decrease:
These palengke prices are sourced and gathered only from these markets in these areas in the metro: Commonwealth, Guadalupe, Las Piñas, Malabon, Marikina, Mega Q-Mart, Muntinlupa, Muñoz, Pasay, Pasig, Pritil, Quinta, and San Andres.
