- To make the Red Sauce: Heat oil in a saucepan. Add garlic and onion. Cook until soft. Add ground beef, cook until browned, and then add water. Simmer until soft. Stir in spaghetti sauce and ketchup. Season with salt, pepper, and sugar. Cover and cook gently. Keep warm.
- To make the Creamy Cheese Sauce: Melt butter in a separate saucepan then add cream of mushroom. Stir until thick and smooth. Season with salt and pepper, then add mozzarella or cheddar cheese, stirring over low heat until cheese melts. Keep warm.
- To assemble: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees Celsius). Pour the red sauce into a slightly greased baking dish. Alternate layers of lasagna, red sauce, and creamy cheese sauce. End with the cheese sauce layer. Sprinkle with grated Parmesan or quickmelt cheese. Bake in the oven for about 35 to 40 minutes or until cooked through. Let stand for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
