Farmers from Ifugao disposed of their freshly-harvested carrots as they struggle to sell their produce to buyers due to oversupply.

In a Facebook post by agribusiness platform Tagani, it says, “Amid the Luzon lockdown, carrots were forcedly disposed by farmers from Ifugao. They were not able to sell their produce to buyers at trading posts in La Trinidad, Benguet due to oversupply.”
This post was accompanied by a series of photos that show the farmers emptying a huge container of carrots, leaving a mountain of produce on an empty field.
In an interview with Iloisa Romaraog of Session Groceries, she told Yummy.ph that there is an oversupply and the current price of carrots are sold at P4 per kilo. She adds, “Madami pa eh,” further including other produce, such as lettuce and strawberries, that are currently experiencing an oversupply.
The farmers are also having a hard time delivering the produce in cargos because of the protocols to be followed at checkpoints for each local government unit (LGU). Disheartened, she says, “Helpless nga eh. As much as we want to help, hindi namin alam kung paano.”
Session Groceries is willing to coordinate with LGUs or the government to help the farmers. She suggests buying produce directly from the farmers and set up an online palengke per barangay. If you’re interested to help out, you can send a message on Facebook.
